QAM

MSOs require superior Edge QAM functionality

Edge QAMs deliver digital broadcast and VoD offerings to subscribers and are a critical part of a cable operators HFC infrastructure. As cable operators continue to grow their digital broadcast and VoD services, additional QAM streams must be combined in a dense and space-saving package. As they begin to transition to M-CMTS architecture, cable operators are looking for technology that can help reduce or prevent the capital and operational cost of needing to replace or upgrade non-compliant Edge QAM technology. For operators seeking a next-generation technology that can support evolving features and functionality while holding the line on costs, ARRIS offers the D5™ Universal Edge QAM.

ARRIS provides innovative Universal Edge QAM with greater Edge QAM capacity

The ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM is a remarkable IP edge network technology that can deliver a broad range of multimedia content in a modular, redundant and cost-effective method. Critical to cable operators is the ability to upgrade the D5 solution to achieve compliance with M-CMTS for the simultaneous delivery of MPEG-2 Digital Video content and DOCSIS® downstream data. As the densities and types of new media traffic evolve, operator need options for IP/DOCSIS-based downstream solutions that can't be handled cost-efficiently by existing CMTS solutions. The D5 Universal Edge QAM was designed to address video Edge QAM requirements and, in conjunction with other M-CMTS network elements, downstream-biased DOCSIS market segments in a single flexible solution that can adapt and evolve as market conditions require.

An Edge QAM device with greater flexibility, performance

The D5 Edge QAM has been designed to link MPEG-2 SPTS and MPTS streams from IP-based Gigabit Ethernet metro networks to QAM-based HFC networks. The D5 platform can ingest as much as 1488 simultaneous MPEG-2 transport streams through any of its four GbE interfaces. It can then flexibly multiplex them across any of its available output channels. The D5 solution supports highly dense QAM output configurations with capacity for up to 48 channels in a 2 RU chassis, with six QAM card slots and each card supporting up to eight channels. The D5 Universal Edge QAM can be used today as an enhanced solution and evolve unobtrusively to the next-generation of edge devices that will require the convergence of video with high-speed data delivery services.

ARRIS also offers IMS-compliant telephony solutions including telecommunication equipment and VoIP phone equipment, as well as wireless broadband and wireless communication technology.
