FMC

FMC is a bright new horizon for cable operators

The triple play of cable, telephone and high-speed Internet was a natural for cable system operators. This bundling of services made perfect sense - operators could generate additional revenue streams that built on existing infrastructure, thereby holding the line on costs. Passing on these savings to the customer, operators could offer more services at competitive rates, securing more subscribers and improving profits. Today, fixed mobile convergence (FMC) promises to turn the triple play into a quadruple play by allowing operators to offer cell phone service. FMC solutions take advantage of the fact that more and more cell phone users make calls on their mobile phone from home. By offering cell phone service with dual mode handsets that communicate with an MSO-provided wireless access point within the home, operators can secure additional business from subscribers while offering customers even greater value in their communication services. For products that allow MSOs to easily implement FMC on a scalable basis, consider the solutions from ARRIS.
