ARRIS FlexPath™ Wideband solution delivers higher bandwidth

Channel bonding technology promises to revolutionize the cable industry. After incredible growth in the late 1990s, the cable industry is experiencing increasing competition from DSL and FTTx providers. Consequently, cable operators require new and better technology to deliver on the triple play of voice, data and multimedia services. As customers require ever greater bandwidth to satisfy their needs, the ARRIS Flexpath solution with channel bonding offers the technology to provide them with expanded bandwidth. Using existing DOCSIS® channel widths and modulation, channel bonding bonds DOCSIS channels together to dramatically increase the bandwidth between the cable head-end and each subscriber on the network. ARRIS FlexPath Wideband technology is a leading channel bonding solution that delivers greater competitiveness and revenue for cable operators.

Innovative FlexPath technology cable operators with new revenue opportunities

ARRIS FlexPath products use the identical packet bonding approach reportedly chosen by CableLabs® for DOCSIS® 3.0. While DOCSIS channel bonding effectively combines multiple DOCSIS channels to provide a greater data rate, it is also backwards compatible with existing ARRIS technology such as the Cadant® C4 cable modem termination system. Delivering data rates well over 100 Mbps, Flexpath technology easily surpasses the rates of competitive technologies such as DSL and FTTX. This cost effective solution provides the individual subscriber with more than 30 times the bandwidth of a typical 3 Mbps cable modem. That means cable operators can more easily offer bandwidth-hungry applications like video on demand, multimedia content downloads, and IPTV. The ARRIS Wideband Modem with FlexPath technology will support four bonded channels in both the downstream and upstream direct, and that number will grow with subsequent releases. FlexPath technology is deployed on the ARRIS C4 CMTS through an easy software upgrade, and will work on existing cable access modules.

FlexPath technology surpasses xDSL data rates while decreasing operators' CAPEX by permitting large-scale statistical multiplexing of deployed modems and Touchstone Wideband Modems with existing C4 CMTS hardware. All in all, this new approach to delivering content promises to place cable operators at the front of the race for broadband customers.

FlexPath is part of comprehensive product offerings from ARRIS

ARRIS also provides a broad range of other products and services for the cable industry. In addition to the C4 CMTS, ARRIS offers the D5 Universal Edge QAM, a T1/E1 Commercial Services Modem, and a Fixed Mobile Convergence solution that will allow operators to offer quadruple play services.
