New DOCSIS 3.0 specs pave the way for greater profits and market share
Since the introduction of DOCSIS standards and the subsequent release of DOCSIS 1.1, 2.0 and Euro-DOCSIS standards, the cable Internet market has continued to see increased competition from DSL and other fiber optic services. This has led to the development of DOCSIS 3.0 standards, which lay the foundation for an increase in bandwidth both upstream and downstream. The new 3.0 specifications establish upstream data rates of at least 120 Mbps and downstream data rates of at least 160 Mbps or higher. They also include support for IPv6 and channel bonding. This considerable increase in bandwidth will be a major competitive advantage for cable operators. The ARRIS D5™ Universal Edge QAM solution supports Digital Broadcast and Video on Demand and will support upgrades to DOCSIS 3.0 architecture standards.
