 The QAM capacity of the D5 Universal Edge QAM (UEQ) will increase by 50% from 48 QAMs per 2 RU chassis to 72 QAMs per 2 RU chassis as part of the D5 solution's planned Release 2.3, available for shipment in Q3, 2007. This increased density is achieved via a simple software upgrade and will result in significantly lowering the cost per QAM channel.
An added advantage of the D5 UEQ’s increased density is that an operator can choose between Quad Bonding ratios (4 QAM channels per RF port) and Hex Bonding ratios (6 QAM channels per RF port) to be able to mix and match QAM capacity to the network configuration needed on a port by port basis. The D5 needs only software upgrades to the D5 QAM and WAN modules to enable this feature, so an operator can start with quad bonding and convert to hex bonding if needed. |
 ARRIS Technical Support is pleased to announce a new web-based Customer Knowledge Center called Ask ARRIS. This on-line tool provides a professional, user-friendly, high-tech support site designed to make our accumulated experience and support information more accessible. With "Ask ARRIS," customers can access support information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Continual updates of the Ask ARRIS Knowledge Center ensure that it will grow with our product lines and be regularly refreshed with new information. The Customer Knowledge Center application makes ARRIS more responsive: built-in analysis and reports identify usage trends and gaps in the published answers. It also manages follow-ups to customer requests via e-mail. ARRIS will use the Knowledge Center to tailor the user interface, answers and documentation to our customers’ needs.
Scandinavian satellite and cable provider Canal Digital, a new ARRIS customer, has selected the ARRIS C4 CMTS platform to deliver broadband Internet and Voice over IP service to its customer base in Denmark.
Canal Digital chose the ARRIS C4 CMTS platform, in association with ARRIS Value-Added Reseller VECTOR, for its high availability and five 9’s reliability in delivering high-speed data as well as VoIP service. The first deployment will take place in Odense, Denmark, birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. VECTOR will provide integration and maintenance service.
“The C4’s wire-speed and carrier-grade availability were determining factors in our CMTS selection to improve our network capabilities,” said Kim Esben Jorgensen, IT Manager at Canal Digital, Denmark. “The C4 deployments will help us deliver a higher quality of voice and data service now and, in the future, will expand that data service by offering speeds in excess of 100 Mbps.”
 With Comcast's selection of the ARRIS D5 Universal Edge QAM to fulfill its Switched Digital Video bandwidth reclamation project, ARRIS is now firmly established in the next generation video realm.
ARRIS will exhibit at the IBC in Amsterdam (RAI Center, September 7-12) and will demonstrate the D5's SDV, VOD and Digital Broadcast capabilities, as well as the ARRIS M-CMTS, I-CMTS and Wideband solutions to European cable operators.
Other ARRIS activities include press and anlysts briefings, a featured Opinion piece in the IBC Daily from ARRIS European CTO Charles Cheevers, and the judging of the Cable & Satellite International Awards, where the ARRIS C4 CMTS is among the four finalists in the 'Best cable voice/data last mile technology' category (Monday, September 10, 6:30 in Room O)
